He is notable for his revolutionary religious and artistic reforms, which aimed to establish a monotheistic cult centered around the sun disk deity, Aten.

- When you have raised them up.
- Bathing their limbs, they cleanse themselves,
- Clothing themselves, they put on their sandals.
- Their arms are raised in adoration of your dawning,
- Their hearts are filled with your love.
- For you give breath to all that is,
- And create all that does not exist.
- You are the sun, you are the dawn,
- You are the light that shines forth from the sky.
