What are the pyramids?

The pyramids are not just impressive for their size and scale; they are also incredibly complex structures. The Egyptians used advanced engineering techniques to construct the pyramids, and they were able to achieve a high degree of accuracy in their measurements. The pyramids are also remarkable for their durability, and they have stood for thousands of years with very little deterioration.

The pyramids have long been a source of fascination and mystery, and they continue to be one of Egypt’s most popular tourist attractions. Visitors from all over the world come to see these ancient monuments and to learn about the civilizations that built them.

Here is a table of the most famous pyramids in Egypt:

• The Giza pyramids: (The Giza necropolis): Kings of the Old Kingdom of Egypt built it at (c. 2686-2181 BC) and are believed to be the tombs of the pharaohs Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure. • The Dahshur pyramids:

There are three pyramids for king Sneferu, and one for king Amenemhet III. The Bent pyramid, The Pyramid of Meidum and The Red Pyramid known as Pyramids of Sneferu. The Black Pyramid Dahshur is known as the Pyramid of Amenemhet III.

1-The Pyramid of Bent at Dahshur: The first of the Dahshur pyramids, King Sneferu. Archaeologists now believe that the Bent Pyramid represents a transitional form between step-sided and smooth-sided pyramids. The ancient formal name of the Bent Pyramid is generally translated as (The)-Southern-Shining-Pyramid, or Sneferu-(is)-Shining-in-the-South.

2-The Pyramid of Meidum: Meidum is a site in Lower Egypt. The Meidum pyramid is called False Pyramid (el-heram el-kaddaab – in Egyptian Arabic.) The pyramid at Meidum is thought to be just the second pyramid built after Djoser’s.

3-The Red Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara also known as the North Pyramid of Sneferu.

The Red Pyramid stands as a testament to the transition from step pyramids to true smooth-sided pyramids, while the Black Pyramid embodies the merging of construction techniques from both eras. These pyramids, along with the Bent Pyramid, another notable structure at Dahshur, demonstrate the experimentation and refinement that led to the construction of the awe-inspiring pyramids at Giza.

The Pyramid of Djoser is believed to be the first pyramid ever built, and it was constructed for the pharaoh Djoser in the Third Dynasty (c. 2686-2613 BC). The pyramid named for its distinctive reddish hue. the Red Pyramid is the third-largest pyramid in Egypt. Constructed during the reign of Pharaoh Sneferu (c. 2613-2555 BC), the pyramid stands at an impressive height of 341 feet (104 meters) and boasts a base length of 672 feet (205 meters).

The Red Pyramid’s construction marks a significant turning point in Egyptian pyramid architecture. It represents the first successful attempt to build a true smooth-sided pyramid, a departure from the earlier step pyramids that characterized the Third Dynasty. This achievement paved the way for the construction of the iconic pyramids at Giza.

The Pyramid of Amenemhet III. The Black Pyramid in Dahshur the fourth pyramid.

The second-largest pyramid at Dahshur. Built during the reign of Pharaoh Amenemhet III (c. 1867-1814 BC), the pyramid stands at a height of 321 feet (98 meters) and has a base length of 623 feet (190 meters).

Despite its name, the Black Pyramid was originally coated with white limestone, giving it a gleaming appearance similar to other pyramids of the era. However, over time, the limestone has eroded, exposing the underlying blocks of dark, bluish-green granite, resulting in the pyramid’s current somber hue.

The Black Pyramid is unique in its construction, employing a combination of techniques used in both the step pyramids and the true smooth-sided pyramids. This hybrid approach reflects the transitional period in pyramid construction, bridging the gap between the earlier and later styles.

The Red Pyramid and the Black Pyramid stand as two of the most enigmatic and captivating ancient structures in Egypt. These pyramids, offer a glimpse into the remarkable architectural prowess and ingenuity of the Old Kingdom pharaohs.

Today, the Red Pyramid and the Black Pyramid stand as enduring reminders of the architectural brilliance and engineering prowess of ancient Egypt. • Lisht, Two major pyramids are known to have been built at Lisht: those of Amenemhat I and his son, Senusret I.

Thailand is a culturally rich country with a wide range of exotic customs and traditions.

Thailand is a land of rich culture and tradition, and its exotic customs are a reflection of this. From the elaborate rituals performed at temples to the unique festivals celebrated throughout the year, there is something for everyone to experience.

My experience with the tradition in Thailand was with the Spirit Houses, and monkeys. The idea of the Spirit Houses was strange for me. Some Thais believe that to avoid harming evil spirits, you must put some food and drinks for them in front of the entrance of the place. You can see it everywhere, whether it was a house, a restaurant or any place. They put some Fanta strawberry drink because it is red with the color of blood. As for the size of the house of spirits, it depends on the wealth of the person and his conviction of the idea.

Here are a few of the most exotic customs in Thailand:

• Spirit Houses: known as “San Phra Phum,” are small shrines found in many homes, businesses, and public places in Thailand. Thais believe that miniature houses are providing shelter for guardian spirits and are adorned with offerings such as flowers, food, and incense to ensure good luck and protection.
• Wai Greeting: The traditional Thai greeting is known as the “wai.”that involves placing the palms together in front of the chest and bowing slightly. The higher the wai, showing more respect. It is important to wai when greeting elders, people in positions of authority, and monks. Thais use the wai as a sign of respect, it is commonly used when greeting elders, monks, or people of higher social status.

• Loy Krathong: It is a festival that is celebrated on the full moon of the twelfth lunar month (usually in November). It is a time to pay respect to the water spirits , Phra Mae Khongkha. During Loy Krathong, people make small floats called krathongs and float them down rivers and canals. Thais make the krathongs typically of banana leaves and decorated with flowers, candles, and incense, to pay respect to the water spirits and to symbolically let go of negative energy.

Here are also a few notable customs:

• Songkran festival: It is the Thai New Year festival, which is celebrated every April. That is a time for families and friends to come together and celebrate the new year. It is one of the most important and widely celebrated festivals in Thailand. It is marked by water fights and the pouring of scented water on Buddha statues and the hands of elders as a gesture of cleansing and good fortune. They believe that it will wash away the bad luck of the old year and welcome the good luck of the new year.

• Phi Ta Khon festival: The Phi Ta Khon festival is a three-day festival that is celebrated in the Dan Sai district of Loei province. The festival is held to honor the ancestors and to ask for their blessing for the coming year. During the festival, people wear elaborate costumes and masks and perform traditional dances. • Muay Thai (Thai Boxing): It is a traditional martial art and combat sport that has deep cultural significance in Thailand. It incorporates punches, kicks, elbows, and knee strikes and is often accompanied by traditional music and ceremonial rituals before the fights.

Here are more of the notable customs:

• Buddhist Traditions: Buddhism is the predominant religion in Thailand, and various Buddhist customs and traditions are observed throughout the country. These include offering alms to monks, visiting temples, participating in meditation retreats, and observing religious holidays.

• Elephant Conservation: Elephants hold a significant cultural and historical importance in Thailand. While the use of elephants in tourism and entertainment has raised ethical concerns, there is a growing emphasis on elephant conservation and responsible tourism practices. Visitors can engage in activities such as ethical elephant sanctuaries and rehabilitation centers, where they can learn about the conservation efforts and interact with elephants in a responsible manner.

• Monkey Buffet Festival: The Monkey Buffet Festival is a festival that is held every November at the Lopburi monkey temple. The festival is held to feed the hundreds of monkeys that live at the temple. During the festival, thousands of kilograms of food are laid out on a buffet table for the monkeys to enjoy. These are just a few examples of the exotic customs in Thailand. Exploring Thai customs and traditions can be a fascinating way to immerse yourself in the local culture and gain a deeper understanding of the country’s unique heritage.

Rome, the capital city of Italy, is teeming with historical sites, iconic landmarks, and cultural treasures.

Rome-Italy is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. It is a city with a rich history and culture, and there are many things to see and do there.

I had a nice visit to Rome in 2017. Rome-Italy, is an open museum (The Roman Forum, and other ancient ruins.) I liked the historical atmosphere there; it took me so far beyond the time and place. The people there are nice and friendly.

Unfortunately for me the Trevi Fountain was closed for maintenance.

Among all the food recipes I liked too much the pizza, the fries, and the icecream.

Here’s a suggested tourist tour itinerary for Rome-Italy:

Day 1: Ancient Rome

• Start your day at the Colosseum, the iconic amphitheater that once hosted gladiator battles and other spectacles. Explore the interior and learn about its fascinating history.
• Visit the nearby Roman Forum, the heart of ancient Rome, where you can see the ruins of temples, basilicas, and other important structures.
• Take a short walk to the Palatine Hill, one of Rome’s seven hills, offering panoramic views of the city and the remains of imperial palaces.
• Afterward, head to the Pantheon, a marvel of Roman architecture, known for its massive dome and stunning interior.
• Conclude the day by tossing a coin into the Trevi Fountain, a famous Baroque fountain, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of the surrounding area. Fountain is a popular tourist attraction and is said that if you throw a coin into the fountain, you will return to Rome one day.

I suggest for you to have dinner in the Trastevere neighborhood, which is known for its lively atmosphere and traditional Roman cuisine.

Day 2: Vatican City and Historic Center

• Begin your day with a visit to Vatican City, the smallest independent state in the world. Explore St. Peter’s Basilica, the largest church in Christendom, and marvel at its magnificent artwork, including Michelangelo’s Pietà.
• Take a guided tour of the Vatican Museums, home to an incredible collection of art and historical artifacts, including the renowned Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo’s frescoes.
• Afterward, head to Castel Sant’Angelo, a fortress located on the banks of the Tiber River, and enjoy the panoramic views from its terrace.
• In the afternoon, explore Rome’s historic center. Visit the Spanish Steps, climb to the top for a great view, and stroll through the picturesque streets of the surrounding area.
• End the day in Piazza Navona, a lively square known for its beautiful Baroque fountains and vibrant atmosphere. Enjoy a leisurely dinner at one of the nearby restaurants.

Evening: Enjoy a traditional Italian meal at one of Rome’s many restaurants.

Day 3: Renaissance and Baroque Rome

• Start your day at the Villa Borghese, a large park with beautiful gardens and the Borghese Gallery, which houses an impressive collection of art, including works by Caravaggio and Bernini.
• Visit the Piazza del Popolo, an expansive square with an Egyptian obelisk and twin churches. Take a moment to enjoy the view from the Pincio Terrace.
• Explore the stunning interior of the Basilica of Santa Maria del Popolo, known for its Renaissance artwork, including paintings by Caravaggio.
• Continue to the Trevi neighborhood and visit the Trevi Fountain again during daylight. Explore the narrow streets and indulge in some gelato.
• Conclude your tour with a visit to the Spanish Steps, where you can enjoy the view and people-watch.

Evening: Enjoy a farewell dinner at one of Rome’s many rooftop restaurants.

These are just some highlights of what Rome-Italy has to offer.

Remember to plan your visits to popular sites in advance, as they can get crowded. Also, consider taking breaks to savor Italian cuisine, relax at outdoor cafes, and immerse yourself in the city’s unique atmosphere.

This is just a suggested itinerary, and you can customize it to fit your interests and budget. For example, if you are interested in ancient Roman history, you could spend more time visiting the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and other ancient ruins. If you are on a tight budget, you could skip the museums and focus on exploring the city’s free attractions, such as the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.

No matter what you choose to do, you are sure to have a wonderful time in Rome.

I had visited Madrid many times, and I love it. Waking in the streets and watching everything is one of the most enjoyable things for me.

For kids eating the delicious icecream will be a good idea they will not forget.

• Visit Warner Bros. Park Madrid: it is a theme park with rides, shows, and attractions based on popular Warner Bros. characters and franchises. It’s a great place for kids of all ages to have a fun and exciting day.

• Visit the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales: The Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales is a natural history museum with exhibits on dinosaurs, animals, plants, and more. It’s a great place for kids to learn about science and nature in a fun and interactive way.
• Take a cooking class: There are many cooking schools in Madrid that offer classes for kids of all ages. This is a great way for kids to learn about Spanish cuisine and have some fun at the same time.
